Northwest Iowa Youth Institute Western Iowa Tech Community College Young leaders from Kingsley-Pierson FFA, MMCRU Royals and Sioux City Community School District gathered together to tackle global challenges at the 3rd Annual Northwest Iowa Youth Institute at Western Iowa Tech Community College. Throughout the day students applied various scientific methods to real-world issues facing people around the world and packaged over 10,000 meals for Then Feed Just One programs in Honduras! |
Heartland Youth Institute Graceland University At the Heartland Youth Institute students were introduced to local hunger-fighting organizations through on-site projects at the Lamoni Food Pantry and Lamoni Thrift Center. Later in the day students heard from the Executive Director of Self Help International, Nora Tobin, and further engaged in a case study activity that connected school feeding programs in the United States with those constructed in Bangladesh. With this activity students were encouraged to find similarities between the programs in both countries. |
Northeast Iowa Youth Institute Hawkeye Community College At the Northeast Iowa Youth Institute students were introduced to hunger-fighting career paths in technology, agriculture, international business, veterinary medicine and more through interactive activities with Hawkeye faculty. They also had the opportunity to partner with the Northeast Iowa Food Bank in assembling over 2,000 nutritious backpack kits that were distributed across their 16 county service area. The Northeast Iowa BackPack Program provides chronically hungry children with backpacks filled with non-perishable, nutritious, kid-friendly, shelf-stable food to sustain them over weekends and school holidays For more information on the BackPack Program, click here.
